about: Gathering is based on a simple, repeating bassline. It begins with synthesized textures which convey both a feeling of sweltering desert heat, and a sense of the distant, mythic past. A synthesized drum loop enters, followed by the bassline, and then long, sustained electric piano voicings. Finally, the piano takes the melody. Both the instrument and its melody are distant, indistinct; they seem to be coming to us through the filter of memory - or through the sweltering, rippling heat of the desert. A counter-melody, somewhat more urgent, is doubled on the trumpet - but this eventually gives way and the first pattern returns, embellished by a solo on a synth voice.
